Merry Christmas!

This phrase resonates with me this year in a unique way. This is the first Christmas that allowed me to spend it in a parish assignment in two years. I have to admit, I am a bit biased that it is great for me to spend Christmas with a community of people that I have come to know and love. Thank you for the many kind cards, gifts and words of inspiration that you have given to me during this season!

Christmas is when we take the time to appreciate the Incarnation of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a time that is meant for reflection and action. The wise men, made their way to find the Lord, and for us it is our time of meditating upon Christ in the manger. The beautiful tradition of a nativity scene, is more than just a decoration. The original nativity scenes were designed to help people pray and meditate upon Christ’s Incarnation. It really is a beautiful opportunity for us to take the time to meditate upon Christ, to hold Him in our hearts and to focus upon Him as a newborn child. The humility, the innocence the sheer joy of holding Christ as a newborn is meant to enliven our hearts in a profound way this season.

My prayer is that the Lord pours out His love into your hearts in such a manner that you are filled with great joy and hope.
