Any journey begins with the first step. If it weren’t for the people around me encouraging me and praying for me, I would have not taken the first step needed to begin this journey. When I began the Permanent Diaconate program in 2012, I did not feel that I would finish. I felt that God was going to call me to do something else but this is where He wanted me to be for now. When Davena began having health issues, one after another, in 2013, I thought that it was time for me to drop out and take care of her. Family comes first. But we prayed about it and decided that we would just take it one day at a time and see where God would lead us. A short time later, we found ourselves in 2017 with ordination quickly approaching.

I cannot begin to thank everyone that has helped us and prayed for us on this journey but I do want to thank the person that invited us to Sts. Joseph and Paul 14 years ago. I want to thank Fr. Carl for putting up with me, teaching and guiding me and allowing me to grow at my own pace but pushing me to stretch my box when needed.   Thank you to Fr. Julio and Fr. Augusty – I have only known them a short time but they have greatly influenced my spiritual life.

I am fortunate to have someone in my life who does not know the meaning of quitting, who continually gives of herself even when she is not able to give any more. We have grown a lot over the last 42 years and because of her, I am where I am today.  God definitely puts people in your path that will help you. Davena and I look forward to serving God and the people of Sts. Joseph & Paul Church.
